Rev John Risdon's Retirement

On 18th October 2009, we said goodbye to our Rector, John, and his wife Sue, as they retired to Gloucester.

The goodbye took the form of a lunch and presentation after John's last service, at which there were 220 people, including 90 children and young people from Junior Church and the Scout and Guide organisations.

They say a picture's worth a thousand words, and so here are several thousand words, compressed into several pictures - a little storyboard of what went on at John's "do".

St Nicholas Church Centre The hordes gather for a very lovely lunch at St Nicholas Church Centre
Farewell Cake No celebration is complete without a cake.
Cutting The Cake

At his second attempt, John successfully cuts the cake.

I'm sure we can get the icing out of the microphone...

A Retirement Present

Here are some of our young congregation presenting John with...

Hmm - what can it be?

Framed Montage It's a rather splendid montage.
John Risdon and his Zimmer Frame

The adults, however, were a little more mischievous, and presented John with an inflatable Zimmer frame.

He does look a natural with it!

There were, of course, other presents too, and one of these is mentioned in John's Letter to the Parish - click to read.
